Book club to discuss ‘AJ Fikry’

DOWNEY – The Downey City Library’s book club, called Booked for Lunch, will meet Thursday, May 14, from 12-1 p.m. in the library’s Cormack Room. The group will discuss Gabrielle Zevin’s book, “Storied Life of AJ Fikry,” a fictional tale about a curmudgeon, widower, and owner of a less than successful bookstore on a small island.

AJ has decided to drink himself to death. Maya shows up at the bookstore after hours, in need of help with no one to turn to, and despite himself, AJ takes a liking to her.

It should be mentioned that Maya is only 2 years old.
