Bolivian poet to read her work
DOWNEY – The next edition of Poetry Matters – Thursday, April 16, at Stay Gallery – will feature poet Margarita Ezcurra and her new book “Because I Have Lived, Poems From Two Worlds.” English and Spanish versions of each poem reflect the multicultural environments we live in today.
Margarita Ezcurra was born and raised in Bolivia. When she was a teenager her family sought political asylum in Argentina. There Margarita studied literature in the Instituto de Humanidades y Letras at the University of Tucumán, and had her first teaching experiences.
In 1968 she moved with her family to the United States.
Ezcurra writes about these two worlds: her childhood, family, and memories of the turmoil in South America, and the joys of family and nature that she has found in this second part of her life.
Poetry Matters is free and open to the public. Doors open at 7 p.m. and an open mike begins at 7:30.
