DOWNEY – Betty Carrel Miller, 87, of Henderson, Nev., formerly of Downey, passed away on Nov. 13 in Henderson.
She was born in Salt Lake City on Feb. 14, 1928 to Alice and Elton Carrel, and was the youngest of six children, all of whom preceded her in death.
Betty grew up in Salt Lake City and graduated from West High School in 1946. A few years later she moved to Southern California with her mother, where she met and married Arland “Pete” Miller on Sept. 14, 1950. They had three children, all of whom were raised in Downey.
During this time, Betty spent many years volunteering at Downey Community Hospital, and also served in various callings in the Downey 3rd Ward of the local LDS Church.
When Pete passed away in 1980, Betty moved briefly to Salt Lake City, then back to Southern California again, and finally settled in Henderson where her daughter Nancy and her family were able care for her in the last decade of her life.
Betty is survived by her three children, Craig (Ann), Nancy (Frank), and David (Kimber); her eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
Services were held Nov. 23 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Whittier, with burial at Rose Hills Cemetery.
