Assistance League of Downey installs new executive board

DOWNEY – The Assistance League of Downey installed its new executive board for 2023-24 during a luncheon on May 25. 

The new board includes Lynn Adams, president; Charlene Roche, first vice president; Debbie Massaglia, treasurer; and Lynda Kriss, secretary. 

Also installed were various elected and appointed positions. 

Meanwhile, more than 90 members and friends of the Assistance League of Downey attended its Casino Royale spring fundraiser event on May 20 at the historic Casa de Parley Johnson. 

In addition to helping to exceed this year’s fundraising goals, attendees enjoyed an evening of fun under the stars. Funds raised will go tward support of the Assistance League’s philanthropic programs including Operation School Bell, Housing of Medical Emergencies at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center, high school scholarships, and the dental program. 

This year, Assistance League of Downey granted 20 scholarships totalling $20,000 in the amount of $1,000 each to graduating Downey and Warren High School students who have demonstrated outstanding volunteerism and community service.  

A special presentation event will be held for recipients and their parents on June 19 at Casa de Parley Johnson. 

Warren High School seniors receiving awards are Sofia Castro, Jonathan Jung, Kenia Gonzalez, Desiree Gonzalez, Indiel Motton, Sabrina Santos, Nathalie Machado, Laeyza Pavana, Celeste Rocha, and Isabella Vega. 

Downey High School graduating senior scholarship awards were granted to Angelica Aragon, Mikeala Cruz, Annaleise Caballero, Mirela Guzman, Maya Martinez, Mathew Martinez, Emily Nunez, Isabel Park, Oliver Palafox, Armando Ramirez, and Daniel Zebarjedi.
