DOWNEY — Part of 3rd Street will be closed next Friday, Nov. 6, as the Downey Chamber of Commerce films the Downey Christmas Parade.

Due to health and safety concerns stemming from COVID-19, the chamber is not able to put on its annual Christmas Parade in the traditional sense.

Instead, the chamber has planned a virtual installment, inviting approximately 15 groups to participate in filming.

To accommodate filming, 3rd Street from Downey Avenue to Civic Center Drive will be closed from 12 to 4 p.m.

The U.S. Bank parking lot will be used as a staging area. People visiting City Hall will still be able to access the Civic Center from Civic Center Drive, the entrance off of Brookshire Avenue by the Downey Theatre, and off of the Legacy Church parking lot.

Event costs are estimated to be at $4,100 (approximately $1,600 for police services and $2,500 for Public Works staff to assist), which will be invoiced to the chamber.
