Tickets now on sale for symphony's garden party
DOWNEY - If you would like to enjoy a lovely Sunday afternoon on Sept. 22, and do something nice for Downey's elementary school kids at the same time, we have just the ticket. It's the Downey Symphony's Sixth Annual Garden Party, to benefit our city's fine orchestra and Music in the Schools, which sends professional instrumentalists to 16 Downey schools each year with educational programs. This year's party will be held at the Rio Hondo Event Center from 4-7 p.m. and features some wonderful auction goodies and the cookin' music of a live saxophone quartet. Those rolling manicured hills of the golf course with beds of flowers everywhere create a gorgeous setting for cocktails on the terrace and good conversation, followed by a delicious dinner, champagne and a lively auction. "A backstage look at the creation of a symphony performance," with Music Director Sharon Lavery and the orchestra's manager, Mark Artusio, will help us understand the many steps and decisions that precede one of our concerts - you will be astounded, promise - and you'll have many chances to win enticing prizes as well. To receive an invitation to this exceptional event, please phone (562) 861-4845. Tickets are $75, and reservations should be in by Sept. 12. You will feel good supporting a very good cause, and having such fun doing it.
