Space center's December calendar
DOWNEY - The Columbia Memorial Space Center released its December calendar of events, which includes a three-day student workshop over Christmas break.The workshop, "Planet, Earth and Space Sciences," will be offered Dec. 26-28 from 12-3 p.m. daily. It is available for two age groups, grades 3-5 and grades 6-8. Cost is $22 per session. The rest of the space center schedule: Preschool Classes, Dec. 14 and Dec. 28, 10-11 a.m.: Fun, light-hearted introduction into science for children ages 3-5. Guardian participation is required. Classes are $12 per guardian-child pair. Teach Workshop: Robotics, Dec. 14, 10 a.m. to noon: A free JPL workshop where teachers (and soon-to-be teachers) can learn how aeronautics can be applied in the classroom. Teacher or college ID required. Columbia Astronomers Meeting, Dec. 21, 7-9 p.m.: An educational meeting for all ages that includes night sky viewing (weather permitting). $2 fee for non club members. For more details, e-mail columbiaastronomers@gmail.com. Saturday Science: Chemical Reactions, Dec. 28, 1-3 p.m.: Find out how one small adjustment can make a chemical identity change. Fun demonstrations included. Tours of the space shuttle mock-up, named "Inspiration," are offered every Saturday at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Tours are free with paid space center admission.
