Richard Vest was WWII veteran

DOWNEY - Downey resident Richard "Dick" Joe Vest died Aug. 21 after being diagnosed two months earlier with stage four lung cancer. He was 87.Dick resided for 63 years at the same Downey address. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, with half his tour spent aboard the USS Doran, a destroyer that was assigned Murmansk convoy duty. For 41 years he was employed by Cal Shops, a furniture manufacturer, as a pattern maker. A woodworker and golfer, he once scored a hole-in-one at Los Amigos Golf Course. He is survived by Janice Jamison and all the extended Jamison family. In lieu of flowers, the family requested contributions to the SPCA or a charity of your choice. Funeral services are private.
