Library now offering eBooks

DOWNEY - Beginning this Friday, Aug. 30, the Downey City Library will begin offering free best-selling and classic eBooks online 24/7.Downey Library cardholders can browse and download the collection from their home computers or smartphones and tablets. With hundreds of popular fiction and non-fiction titles to choose from, "this new collection is guaranteed to have something for everyone," city officials said. "As an educator, I feel it's imperative that we ensure Downey residents have the tools to excel in the 21st Century," said Councilman Roger Brossmer, "and eBooks are just one of the ways we're helping to close the digital divide." The new service, powered by OverDrive, is free with a Downey City Library card. "We are excited about bringing this to our residents and enhancing the experiences of learning and reading in our community," said Mayor Mario Guerra.
