Food banks
Dear Editor:I just read the letter from Malia Phillips and I thank her for letting us know there is help in Downey. On Jan. 6 it will be 57 years I have lived in Downey and this is the first time I heard there was a food bank in Downey. Where the heck is it? I agree with Ms. Phillips about the Downey Patriot not providing any of this important information. Isn't a city paper supposed to tell us what is going on in the city? I have been a strong supporter of the Patriot from day one but I am very disappointed in them right now. Come on Patriot, be helpful and tell us where these places are so we can help. Doris Hannon Downey Editor's note: Downey First Christian Church operates a food bank Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon. Calvary Chapel Downey also has a modest food bank for those in need. For details, call (562) 803-5631. Lastly, there are two organizations that provide services to needy Downey students: the TLC Family Resource Center and the Downey Council PTA HELPS program. Call (562) 904-3577 for information on TLC or (562) 861-9833 for details on PTA HELPS.
