Students graduate from Catholic school

DOWNEY – Downey residents Chanel Castenada, Alexandra Saavedra and Jonina Capino graduated from Cornelia Connelly School in Anaheim last month. In Connelly tradition, the graduates wore white dresses and carried red roses during the commencement ceremony.

This year, Connelly graduated 36 young women. The Class of 2014 studied in Ireland and New York, and were accepted at dozens of colleges and universities throughout the country.

Chanel Castenada will attend Fullerton College in the fall, while Alexandra Saavedra was awarded the John Greenleaf Whittier Scholarship and will attend Lyola Marymount University.

Jonina Capino earned the University of San Francisco’s President’s Merit Scholarship, President’s Merit Scholarship at Loyola Marymount University, honors at entrance and a merit award to St Mary’s College of CA, honor’s at entrance and the Venture Scholarship to St. Catherine’s University, the Presidential Scholarship at Cornell College, and received the University of San Diego Trustee Scholarship, where she will attend in the fall.
