Presidential vacations

Dear Editor: I am responding to just one of the several points Ms. Gallo made in her Letter to the Editor.

In her letter, she compared the total time President Bush was away from the White House – 1,020 days during his 8-year presidency to only President Obama’s 78 days of vacation time.

I thought this was misleading, like comparing apples to oranges, so I googled President Obama’s time away from the White House. I learned, according to CBS reporter Mark Knoller, that as of Jan. 2, 2014, President Obama had been in office for just 712 days, 339 of which President Obama has been out of the White House, or 48 percent. 176 days of domestic trips, 70 days of foreign travel, 58 days of vacation and 35 days at the presidential retreat at Camp David.

This was also, as Ms. Gallo states, while the country faced the aftermath of two wars (one winding down and one surging), super storm Sandy and the worst recession since the Great Depression.
