Police collecting unwanted medication

DOWNEY – The Downey Police Department will be collecting unused and unwanted prescription drugs at a take-back event Saturday, April 26, outside the police station. Residents can drop off their prescription medications and containers into DEA collection boxes or pur their medications into the boxes and keep the containers.

Over-the-counter medicine can also be dropped off, but sharps and needles are not accepted.

The event is co-sponsored by the Los Angeles division of the Drug Enforcement Agency, which is providing the collection boxes and will properly dispose of the drugs.

All medications and containers collected at the event will be incinerated.

The take-back event is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the police department’s west parking lot. It will be held rain or shine.

“This event offers community members an opportunity to rid their homes of potentially dangerous drugs and minimizes the potential for misuse and abuse,” police officials said in a statement.
