Poet to make rare appearance

DOWNEY – This month’s edition of Poetry Matters – July 10 at Stay Gallery – features a rare local appearance by poet Sarah Maclay. Maclay is a fourth-generation Montana native who grew up on a ranch in the Bitterroot Valley.

She has written three poetry collections, including “Whore,” winner of the Tampa Review prize for poetry. Her writings have appeared in more than 70 publications, and been translated into Spanish and French.

She currently teaches creative writing and literature at Loyola Marymount University.

Poetry Matters is free and open to the public. Doors open at 7 p.m. and an open mic begins at 7:30.
