Mexican American Bar Association’s inaugual golf tournament

More than 150 judges, prosectors, public defenders, private attorneys, and supporters participated in the Mexican American Bar Association’s inaugual golf tournament at the Rio Hondo Golf Club last Friday. MABA was founded in 1959 by a group of Mexican-American attorneys who saw the need “to create an organization committed to empowering and educating the Latino community.”

Erick Solares, who is this year’s MABA president and golf tournament chair, resides in Downey. Local Downey attorney and Stay Gallery board member Ricardo Perez served as golf tournament co-chair and also resides in Downey.

“Ricardo and I live here. This is our home. We know how beautiful the city of Downey is and it was important for us to have the tournament here,” said Solares.

Mayor Fernando Vasquez welcomed the group at the tournament’s awards banquet. “On behalf of the city of Downey, I would like to welcome you all to our beautiful city,” Vasquez told the group. “May we continue to work together in the future.”
