Kaiser in Downey ranked in top 20 among state hospitals

DOWNEY – Kaiser Permanente Downey Medical Center is rated among the top 20 in California and is 9th in the LA Metro area in nine specialty areas, including cancer, diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology and GI surgery, geriatrics, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology, and urology, according to U.S. News & World Reports’ 2014-15 Best Hospitals in America rankings published last month. The annual rankings provide an objective analysis of the nation’s medical centers and are derived from the evaluation of nearly 5,000 hospitals. In all, 19 Kaiser Permanente facilities were rated “high performing” in 12 different specialties.

“Kaiser Permanente Downey’s outstanding performance in the U.S. News & World Report ratings reflects our continued commitment to quality and achieving the best health outcomes for our members,” said Binesh Batra, MD, area medical director for the Downey service area. “This recognition of our specialty care is directly attributable to the many dedicated Kaiser Permanente physicians, nurses, clinicians and care teams who excel in proactive prevention of illness, early detection of disease, and better treatment of chronic conditions.”

Kaiser Permanente Downey Medical Center provides for more than 300,000 people throughout the service area and has more than 4,500 staff members and 600 physicians who care for members at its hospital and medical offices, including the newest medical office in Cerritos.

“These rankings are a celebration of our commitment to keeping the patient at the center of everything we do here at Kaiser Permanente,” said Jim Branchick, executive director, Kaiser Permanente Downey Medical Center. “Our integrated, evidenced-based approach enables Kaiser Permanente to deliver the highest quality care to every patient who walks through our doors.”
