Downey plans National Night Out festivities
DOWNEY – Downey will participate in its second annual National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 5, from 5-9 p.m. in the civic center. The event, celebrated across the country on the first Tuesday of August, features crime prevention workshops, children’s activities, community information booths, food, and more.
New York Life will be on-site to make children’s identification cards for parents, free of charge. The ID cars feature their child’s photo, fingerprints, and emergency contact information.
There will also be bicycle workshops for kids, and Helpline Youth Counseling will have information on Covered California.
Admission is free and families are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.

National Night Out started in 1984 to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, and neighborhood camaraderie.
