Downey High student injured in Orland bus crash
Three Downey High School students were on the bus that crashed yesterday in Northern California on its way to Humboldt State University. One student was injured but is "physically doing well," DUSD officials said. The other two students escaped injury.
Ten people were killed when a FedEx truck heading southbound on the 5 Freeway veered into oncoming traffic and slammed head-on into the bus, investigators said. The collision occurred Thursday afternoon in Orland, Calif.
"The Downey Unified School District and the Board of Education extend their heartfelt condolences to the families of the young people who tragically lost their lives, as well as the families of the chaperones and drivers," DUSD officials said in a statement.
School officials said they will offer counseling to the three students involved in the collision. The names of the students were not released.
