Downey girl earns Kohl’s scholarship

DOWNEY – A 12-year-old Downey girl has received a $1,000 Kohl’s scholarship in recognition of her community service. Nathalie Castanos organized several volunteer groups to cook and serve meals for families staying at the Long Beach Ronald McDonald House.

Each month, Nathalie rallied volunteers, planned and shopped for the meals they would cook and helped serve the home-cooked meals to the families.

Nathalie was one of only 200 students from across the country to receive the scholarship from Kohl’s.
