Downey gets $538K to prevent runoff

DOWNEY – The city of Downey has received a $538,000 grant to help finance stormwater pollution efforts. The city will use the money to construct infiltration systems and instill landscaping to prevent stormwater and urban runoff from flowing into nearby rivers and streams.

Funding comes from the Prop. 84 Round 2 Stormwater Grant Program. Downey applied for the grant as part of a Gateway Water Management Authority, which is comprised of 26 members.

“This grant award was made possible through the successful collaboration of many of our regional partners under the Gateway Water Management Authority,” said Mayor Fernando Vasquez. “We commend the hard work of all of the agencies involved in helping secure this funding.”
