Crime Report

Thursday, Sept. 25 At 3:30 p.m., officers responded to Kaiser Hospital in Downey where an adult male was being treated for a 1” laceration on his shoulder. The man told officers he had been assaulted by several juveniles earlier in the day near Lakewood/Margaret, but did not realize he had been cut at the time of the assault. The motive for the assault is unknown. The victim was treated and released. Detectives are investigating.

 

Friday, Sept. 26

At 11:00 p.m., a Downey police officer conducted a traffic stop in the 8400 block of Everest. The driver was found to be in possession of marijuana and methamphetamine. The driver, a 20-year-old woman from Long Beach, was arrested for possession of illegal drugs.

 

Saturday, Sept. 27

At 12:15 p.m., city park staff at Independence Park reported that someone had cut the locks at the snack shack in an attempt to break-in. Despite having cut the locks, the suspect(s) were unable to gain entry. Investigators believe the attempted burglary occurred sometime during the previous night.

 

At 4:00 p.m., a victim came into the station and reported he was the victim of a kidnap and robbery. Officers spoke with the victim who reported being confronted by two suspects in the 9500 block of Firestone Blvd., one of the suspects was armed with a handgun. The men forced the victim to drive them outside the city limits where they then stole the victim’s phone and money before running away. Through investigative means detectives were able to identify and arrest one suspect and the arrest of the other suspect is pending.

 

Monday, Sept. 29

At 3:00 p.m., officers patrolling Downey High after school contacted a group of students smoking marijuana in a parked car in the Ralph’s Market parking lot. One of the males was arrested for possessing a switch blade knife and brass knuckles and the others received citations before being released to the custody of their parents.
