Students to hear free concert

DOWNEY – The Downey Symphony Orchestra will be treating approximately 1,600 Downey fifth grade students and their teachers to a performance at the Downey Theatre on April 3. The Downey Kiwanis Foundation has donated funds to the Downey Symphonic Society’s Music in the Schools outreach program to make the concert possible.

During the concert, conductor Sharon Lavery and various members of the orchestra will explain musical terms and concepts before playing the pieces of music to the students. Each piece will include a story.

“This will be a thrilling experience for all of Downey Unified’s fifth grade students,” DUSD officials said. “We know there may be future symphony musicians in the audience who will be very inspired by such an enriching opportunity.”
