Garcia appointed to Women's Commission

DOWNEY - Assemblywoman Cristina Garcia has been appointed to the California Commission on the Status of Women and Girls, a nonpartisan state agency that works to empower women to enhance their contributions in their communities.

"It is one of my top priorities to see more women represented in positions of leadership," Garcia said. "I extend my deepest appreciation to Speaker John Perez for his confidence and support." Garcia is currently chair of the Assembly Select Committee on Women of Color - Engagement, Opportunity and Progress.

The Commission on the Status of Women was established in 1965 and provides a statewide perspective to the legislature and other policymakers on issues that affect women and children, including areas of gender equality, educational needs, health and safety, women in the military, and women veterans.
