Arc Walk taking sign-ups

DOWNEY - The Arc Walk for Independence, the signature and celebratory event of The Arc Los Angeles & Orange Counties, will begin at 8 p.m. on March 22 at Stonewood Center.The Arc Walk has seen the annual event grow from 220 walkers in 1997 to more than 5,000 in 2013. The event features two walking courses - a one-mile and a three-mile course. Registration fee is $15 per person and children ages 10 and under are free. Prizes will be awarded to the largest registered team, most sponsorship money raised, and other honors. The walk includes marching bands, clowns and special guests. L.A. County Supervisor Don Knabe is host. The Arc is a private non-profit that provides job training and services to people with developmental disabilities. "To continue our success we depend on the generosity and participation of many community members," Arc officials said. "Generosity that comes from individuals, families, children and over 100 teams leaving their footprints on the path to independence for people with intellectual disabilities." Walk registration is accepted online at arcwalk.org or by calling (562) 803-4606 ext. 223. Sign-ups will also be accepted on the morning of the walk.
