Trash fees

Dear Editor:I was appalled to hear that the trash rates were going up again ("Trash Rates Going Up Again," 3/28/13). The way I see it, CalMet should get paid only if they fulfill their obligations before deciding to raise their rates. Last week, CalMet failed to pick up the green trash can designated for lawn and tree trimmings. This was the second week in a row that this happened. Trash pick-up for me is Fridays. I then made the misfortunate mistake in calling CalMet customer service the following Monday to report the problem. The agent that assisted me asked why I had not called earlier to report the issue. Perhaps if CalMet operated on the weekends they would have received a call. I was unaware that not only do the residents of Downey have to pay CalMet for trash services, but they also have to make sure they do their jobs. I think the city of Downey should reconsider doing business with CalMet. Arnold Lopez Downey
