Poet Conney Williams to read work

DOWNEY - Los Angeles-based actor and poet Conney Williams will be the featured guest of the Third Thursday Poetry meeting taking place June 20 at the Rives Mansion.Doors open at 7 p.m., followed by open mike at 7:30. Williams is originally from Shreveport, La., where he worked as a radio personality. He has published two poetry collections, "Leaves of Spilled Spirit from an Untamed Poet" and "Blues Red Soul Falsetto," published last year. He has performed his poetry on television and radio, and at galleries, universities, grade schools, coffee houses and stages around Southern California, including the Black Arts Festival. Admission to the poetry session is free. An optional hot meal with soda is available for $11.
