Memorial set for Mary Lou Schmidt

DOWNEY - A celebration of the life of longtime Downey community icon and leader Mary Lou Schmidt will be held Tuesday, May 14 at 4 p.m. the Rio Hondo Event Center at 10627 Old River School Road in Downey.Mary Lou passed away on April 24 at the age of 76. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that contributions be made to the Assistance League of Downey's H.O.M.E. Project. Mary Lou helped raise the funds, supervised the building, and chaired the leadership team for this unique resource. For nearly 20 years, H.O.M.E has provided housing for medical emergencies for thousands of Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center patient families who need to be near their loved ones who are undergoing treatment for catastrophic disabling illnesses and injuries, but can't afford the cost of a hotel or motel stay in the local area.
