Longtime resident leading historical program

DOWNEY - Longtime Downey resident Don Russell, who turned 94 on Tuesday, will present an informal evening of discussion and reminiscing at the Downey Historical Society's meeting Thursday, May 23.The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. in the John Downey Room at the Barbara J. Riley Community and Senior Center. Russell was in the Army during World War II and was stationed at Fort MacArthur. Among his various jobs was to drive a Helms Bakery truck. The meeting will include a PowerPoint presentation of Downey images. Former mayor Bob Cormack will be in attendance to chime in with his own thoughts and memories.
