Longtime DUSD workers honored
DOWNEY - More than 100 classified (non-teaching) employees of the Downey Unified School District, along with seven retirees, were honored at the school district's personnel commission meeting May 15. Each of the workers were honored for their years of service to DUSD. Among those honoring them were commissioners Dianne Lumsdaine, John Kennedy and Steve Sampley; school board members Tod Corrin, Donald LaPlante, Barbara Samperi, Martha Sodetani and Nancy Swenson; and superintendent Dr. John Garcia.
Seven workers were honored for their recent retirements: Karen Charlton, Kevin Condon, Yolanda Peshkepia, JoAnne Sims, Gerald Starnes, Candy Thompson and Carolyn Tyler.
Employees were honored in 5-year increments of service from five years to 25 years. In all, the workers recognized at the presentation represented 1,305 total years of service to Downey students.
