James Lee Myer

James Lee "Jim" Myer, a long-time resident of Downey, died in his home on Monday, May 27. He was eighty nine. Jim was pre-deceased by his loving and devoted wife, Janie, in 2011. They had been married for sixty three years; together raising their children in their home on Muller Street, which they purchased in 1950 and never left.Jim was born September 3, 1923 to Lee Myer and Mabel Oshel in Long Beach, California. He went to Charles Lindbergh Grammar School in Lynwood and Compton Junior College. Jim served in the Army during World War II as a training instructor from 1945-1947, married Vera Jane Hennington on April 17, 1947 and began the apprentice electrical wireman program in 1948. In 1950, he was recalled to active duty in Korea where he served with the U.S. Army 1st Cavalry, 13th Signal Company, until1952. Once home, Jim returned to work at Newbery Electric Corporation. While there, he progressed from apprentice electrician to Vice President of Electrical Construction before his retirement in 1986. Jim was active for many years in Boy Scout Troop 709 and his devotion to his family was evident in all he did. His unconditional love, unfailing assistance, good cheer and hopeful encouragement live on in his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed. Jim is survived by his sons, Ken and Glen Myer, his daughters, Sherry Morrison and Debra Myer; his 6 grandchildren: Kevin, Ryan and Amy Morrison, Chrystal Stamps, Marci and Nick Myer; and 8 great grandchildren: Jacob Stamps, Layton, Holly, Olivia, Irijah, Giahnna, Zachary & Fulton Morrison. Services will be held at Rose Hills Memorial Park on Saturday, June 1st, at 11:00 am.
