Downey pitcher makes MLB debut

DOWNEY - Downey resident and Warren High grad Bobby LaFromboise made his Major League debut Wednesday, striking out two batters in one inning of work for the Seattle Mariners.LaFromboise, 26, was called up from Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday. The Mariners were down 8-3 against the Houston Astros when manager Eric Wedge inserted La Fromboise into the game at the top of the ninth. LaFromboise said he learned shortly after midnight that he was being called up. He immediately called his father. "I couldn't get through it," LaFromboise told MLB.com. "Teared up. And then I had to talk to my mom, and that was worse. Because it's Mom. It was just a great feeling to be able to make that phone call to them and say, 'Hey, I made it.'" LaFromboise was drafted by the Mariners in 2008.
