Church music festival is Saturday

DOWNEY - Songfest, the annual Downey concert sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and featuring music of all faiths and cultures, will be held this Saturday at 7 p.m. at the church's facilities at 12425 Orizaba Ave. Scheduled to perform are the Trombone Quartet of the Moravian Church of Downey; Tapestry, a Santa Monica-based women's choir; soloist Mei-Hwei Chen; the Community Choir of Hacienda Heights; jazz singer Beverly Taylor; the New City Parish Choir; Dust of the Saints, a trio from the Moravian Church; Compton-based Voices of Inspiration; the Immanuel Gospel Community Choir of Los Angeles; South Gate First Branch (Spanish) and the Samoan Choir of Lynwood.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will also be honoring an outstanding volunteer from the community during the concert, which is now in it 21st year.

Admission to the show is free.
