11 arrested at Norwalk checkpoint
Nearly a dozen people were arrested at a driver's license and DUI checkpoint in Norwalk last Thursday night. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department conducted the checkpoint at Imperial Highway and Bloomfield Avenue in an effort to remove "impaired drivers and to bring awareness to the public of the dangers of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol."
More than 1,030 vehicles passed through the checkpoint.
Four people were arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of marijuana. Another DUI alcohol suspect was also arrested.
One person faces charges for felony possession of narcotics. Three people were arrested on misdemeanor charges of drug possession.
Sheriff's deputies arrested one person for driving on a suspended or revoked license and another driver was taken into custody for not having a driver's license. Both were sent to court.
Five vehicles were impounded and stored for one day. One vehicle is being held for 30 days.
