Eye surgeon offers new type of cataract surgery
DOWNEY - Dr. Brian Brown has become the first physician in Downey to offer a new type of cataract surgery known as LenSx.LenSx utilizes a laser designed specifically for refractive cataract surgery. Using a customizable 3D surgical platform, it allows surgeons to visualize, customize and perform many of the most challenging steps of cataract surgery. Brown said he studied the technology for several years before employing it in his office. "I wanted to make sure it would be safe and effective before I offered it to my patients," he said. LenSx is the first femtosecond laser approved by the FDA for use in cataract surgery, bringing image-guided computer precision to refractive cataract patients during surgery. "Today cataract removal is at an entirely new level," Brown said. "It's performed as an outpatient procedure under local anesthesia, allowing patients to resume their normal activities in no time."
