County settles for Rancho death

DOWNEY - The L.A. County Board of Supervisors this week authorized a $150,000 settlement in the case of a woman who died while receiving treatment at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center.Supervisors also waived the county's medical bills as part of the settlement. Eva Partida was admitted to Rancho on Dec. 16, 2010 for an undisclosed surgery. During the course of her hospitalization, Partida's condition deteriorated and she was eventually placed on life support, county records show. She died Dec. 27. Partida's family sued, claiming she died due to negligent care. In a staff memo, county officials did not admit fault but said "all appropriate personnel corrective actions have been taken" and that classes were held at Rancho "regarding the management of pulmonary complications."
