ZZyZx poetry group coming to Downey

DOWNEY -- In honor of National Poetry Month, Downey's Poetry Matters will host ZZyXy Writerz writing group on April 21 at Stay Gallery. 

"Some say the ZZyZx Writerz are an outfit of creative misfits, they say they are a bunch of friends who just want to write and jam with everyone," group leader Kimberly Cobian says. 

Most of the current members met at a Cal State Los Angeles writing group and every summer they organize "Poetrypalooza," a month-long celebration of poetry uniting dozens of neighborhoods across Southern California, Downey included. 

Doors to the April 21 event open at 7 p.m. and open microphone begins at 7:30, when local writers are invited to bring poems to read. Admission is free.
