World Ballet Company bringing ‘Swan Lake’ to Downey

DOWNEY — World Ballet Company will bring “Swan Lake” to the Downey Theatre at 7 p.m. Feb. 16, 2027, as part of its national tour.

The production will feature choreography by Nadezhda Kalinina, based on the original staging by Marius Petipa, along with more than 150 hand-sewn costumes, hand-painted sets and multimedia projections.

Set to Tchaikovsky’s score, “Swan Lake” follows Prince Siegfried and Odette, a princess cursed to live as a swan by day. Their love is threatened when the sorcerer’s daughter, Odile, deceives the prince.

“We believe ballet is for everyone, and the response from audiences nationwide has been incredible,” said producer Gulya Hartwick, who co-founded the company with Sasha Gorskaya. “Swan Lake is arguably the most iconic ballet ever created, and we’re thrilled to bring this majestic production to you.”

The Los Angeles-based company’s ensemble includes dancers from more than 10 countries. The Downey performance is among more than 80 planned presentations of “Swan Lake” during its 2026-27 tour.

The performance will run approximately two hours and 30 minutes, including a 20-minute intermission, and is recommended for ages 5 and older.
