Workshop to offer info on service academies

DOWNEY - Local high school students interested in attending a U.S. service academy are invited to an informational workshop hosted by Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard at the Downey City Library on Oct. 22 from 10 a.m. to noon.Service academies offer a free college education in exchange for five years of military service as a commissioned officer following graduation. Representatives from West Point, the U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Coast Guard Academy and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy will be on hand to provide information and answer questions.
