Whose youth?
Dear Editor:This is in response to the letter titled "Investing in Youth" (The Downey Patriot, 12/23/10). The title should have been "Investing in Mexico's Youth." The Dream Act lets the children of illegal aliens to become citizens when taxes pay for their college education. The people who want this don't care about American children who aren't getting this money. Illegal alien parents came to another country and they and their children can go back to their own country. Their minds can be put to good use in Mexico. Our investment in education from kindergarten through 12th grade should be for American kids. We are not making illegals work at menial jobs. They are taking the jobs that should be for Americans such as students, Arc consumers and part-timers. The brightest minds and talents of Mexico's citizens can contribute to Mexico's society, which would only improve our border security. The author calls Americans stupid and close-minded, yet calls Mexico's citizens hard-working, talented and with bright minds. Where do her loyalties lie? -- El Bee, Downey
