Whittier chorale plans March 28 concert
WHITTIER – Chorale Bel Canto, an 80-voice masterworks chorale based in Whittier, will present a choral concert, “Music of the Bach Family,” on Saturday, March 28, at 4 p.m. in First Friends Church, Whittier.
Musical director Stephen Gothold, emeritus professor of music at Whittier College, conducts.
Now in its 33rd year, Chorale Bel Canto will perform, in addition to works by the master J.S. Bach himself, music by his forebears spanning three generations. You will marvel at the variety: some pieces will be sung in “surround sound,” with singers encircling the audience; an ensemble of about 25 singers will present a motet, another motet features five soloists from the Chorale, and the concert will conclude with a masterpiece by Johann Sebastian himself,” Singet dem Herrn,” a motet for double chorus.
Accompaniment will be provided by organ and chamber ensemble, including strings, Baroque trumpets and timpani. Dr. Gothold will share remarks on these works and their composers.
First Friends Church is at 13205 E. Philadelphia St. For tickets and information, call (888) 460-9222, or visit ChoraleBelCanto.org.
