West Nile virus confirmed in Whittier

WHITTIER - A mosquito collected in Whittier has tested positive for West Nile virus, vector control officials announced this week.The positive test sample is the first sign of virus activity in Whittier, officials with the Greater Los Angeles County Vector Control District said. West Nile virus is transmitted to people and animals though the bite of an infected mosquito. There is no cure for West Nile virus. For more information on how to protect yourself against West Nile virus, go online to westnile.ca.gov. Residents are also encouraged to report dead birds by calling (877) WNV-BIRD.
