Wasting water

Dear Editor:I feel both angry and sad when I see precious water being wasted. Do those who do it not care, or do they just not think about it? When I run errands I often see sprinklers on at midday on the hottest days. It annoys me even more when I see it being done by businesses; it seems to me that they ought to be helping to set examples. Last week the sprinklers at Albertson's were on at noon. I spoke to the store manager and she said she would bring it up to the property owners and/or maintenance people. Shouldn't property maintenance people know better than that in the first place? I believe such water is actually illegal within the city limits of Los Angeles and Long Beach. Is there any reason that Downey cannot enact such an ordinance? -- Gary E. Myers, Downey
