Warren wrestlers win CIF championship
Warren High School's wrestling team defeated rival Downey on Saturday to win the CIF championship. Warren, which captured the San Gabriel Valley League title earlier this month, was seeded No. 1 heading into the playoffs. The Bears advanced to the CIF finals after beating a tough Paramount team. That match was tied after regulation and the outcome was decided by the fourth tie-breaking criteria, setting up the championship match against two-time defending champion Downey. After falling behind in early bouts against Downey, Warren built a commanding lead by winning its next seven bouts. With an insurmountable lead, Warren conceded the final two bouts to take the match 37-30 and win the CIF title.
