Warren hosting Lynwood in league opener
DOWNEY — The Warren High School baseball team currently has an overall record of 6-1 and will begin San Gabriel Valley League later today when they host Lynwood.
The Bears hosted Troy at Warren in a double header on February 15th and split the two games. Warren was defeated by Troy 6-2 in the first game and defeated Troy 4-2 in the second game. The Bears are currently on a modest six-game winning streak.
The Bears defeated Whittier, 10-3, on February 20, beat West Covina, 11-1, on February 22, and defeated Portola, 16-0, on February 24.
Warren defeated University, 9-0, on February 28 and hosted El Rancho in the “Dons vs. Bears Family Night” on Wednesday (score unavailable at press time).
The Bears will host Lynwood later today before traveling to Roosevelt on Saturday for a non-league game. They will then host Gahr on March 17 and travel to cross-town rival Downey on March 20.
Coach Pearson, his staff and players are all looking forward to the start of league play and competing for a S.G.V.L. championship. The Bears finished last season tied for second place with Downey at 7-3. Gahr (8-2) was last season’s league champion and will once again be the team to beat in league play.
The Warren High School softball team currently has an overall record of 4-2 and will begin San Gabriel Valley League play when they travel to Dominguez to play the Lady Dons on March 24.
Warren recently competed in the Savannah Tournament where they were defeated by Norco, 7-0, in their first game and defeated South Hills, 3-2, in their second game on February 15.
The Bears defeated Mayfair, 10-7, on February 18, were defeated by La Serna, 8-7, on February 25, defeated Artesia, 11-1, on February 27 and defeated El Rancho, 13-0, on Tuesday.
The Bears traveled to Mira Costa on Thursday (score unavailable) and will host Long Beach Poly on Monday. Warren hosts La Palma Kennedy in a double header next Thursday at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
The Bears will then host San Dimas on March 16 and will begin league play when they travel to Dominguez on March 24. Warren will then host Gahr on March 25 and Downey on April 7.
Coach Starksen, her staff and players are all looking forward to the start of league play. The Bears finished league play last season in third place behind Downey and eventual league champion, Gahr. Gahr will once again be the team to beat in league play this season.
The Downey High School baseball team has an overall record of 1-5 and will begin San Gabriel Valley League play when they travel to Paramount to play the Pirates on March 6.
Downey recently competed in the Loara Tournament where they finished with a record of 1-4. The Vikings were defeated by Aliso Niguel, 11-2, in their first game on February 20, were defeated by Villa Park, 4-2, in their second game on February 21 and were defeated by Ocean View, 2-1, in eight innings, in their third game on February 25.
Downey was defeated by Sonora, 3-1, in their fourth game on February 27, but recovered to beat Loara, 6-0, in their fifth and final game of tournament play on February 29.
The Vikings were defeated by Pacifica, 3-1, on Tuesday in non-league play.
Downey hosted Millikan on Wednesday but the final score was not available at press time. They will travel to Paramount later today, will host Cerritos in a non-league game on Monday, travel to Carson next Wednesday in another non-league game, and will host Gahr next Friday in league competition.
Coach Gonzalez, his staff and players are all looking forward to the start of league play and competing for a league championship. Downey (7-3) finished last season in a second-place tie with Warren (7-3) behind league champion Gahr (8-2). The Gladiators will once again be the team to beat in league play.
The Downey High School softball team currently has an overall record of 2-5 and will begin San Gabriel Valley League play when they travel to Gahr to play the Lady Gladiators on March 24.
Downey defeated Esperanza, 8-7, on February 20, defeated La Mirada, 5-4, on February 25, and was defeated by Chino, 13-1, on February 26.
Downey was defeated by South Torrance in both games of a double header on February 27. The Lady Vikings were defeated, 10-0, in the morning game and were defeated, 15-1, in the second game at 1:30 p.m.
The Lady Vikings also competed in the Best of the West Tournament that was held at Marina High School on February 29. Downey was defeated by Beckman, 6-3, in their first game and was defeated by Marina, 4-1, in their second game. Downey is currently competing in the Mojave Tournament being held this weekend in Bullhead City, Arizona.
Downey will travel to Gahr on March 24 in their league opener and will host Paramount on March 26.
