DOWNEY — Warren High School standout wide receiver and defensive back Xamarion Gordon has signed his national letter of intent to play football at the University of Southern California.

Warren finished the 2019 season with an overall record of 7-4 and a San Gabriel Valley League record of 4-1. The Bears finished in second place in league play behind league champion Paramount (5-0).

Gordon made several key plays in Warren’s 39-35 “hail mary” win against Downey in the 2019 game that many of the Warren faithful remember. Warren was later defeated by La Serna, 56-29, in the first round of the C.I.F. Division 6 Playoffs. Gordon was a big reason behind Warren’s offensive, defensive and overall success.

One of Gordon’s reasons to play at USC is how close it is. He said he is excited that his parents can come and watch him play. Gordon also liked “the feel of a family school” that USC seems to provide.

“It’s truly a blessing and just seeing the hard work that I put in and just really the true definition of a slow but steady grind pay off,” he said.

St. John Bosco

The St. John Bosco football program had five players sign National Letters of Intent this past week to compete at the next level.

Anton Ambuehl, a tackle, has signed to play for the University of Nevada at Las Vegas (UNLV), linebacker Andrew Simpson has signed to play for the University of Kansas, guard Maximus Gibbs has signed to play at USC, defensive back Kamren Blanton has signed to play at UNLV, and wide receiver Beaux Collins has signed to play at Clemson.

As a junior in 2019, Collins caught 41 passes for 1,008 yards and 14 touchdowns. He was a standout on Bosco’s state and national championship team.

Collins will be enrolling early at Clemson and join former Bosco standout quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei. Collins said he is extremely pleased to be playing with D.J., saying “I really couldn’t ask for another quarterback better than D.J.”
