Warren High sets record with latest food drive
DOWNEY — Warren High School hit a milestone achievement last month when it donated 23,969 cans of food to the PTA HELPS food pantry, along with nearly $20,000 in monetary donations.
The food drive was spearheaded by Coach Waldron as he challenges his classes, along with staff and teachers. Each week for four weeks, a winner was chosen who brought in the most contributions for the week. They received recognition along with a special t-shirt.
The drive ended with their delivery of five pallets of food. The money will be used to purchase food during the summer when the pantry typically receives no donations.
“Thanks to all those who brought in food or donations to continue to help the 300-plus families we serve in Downey,” said Dorothy Pemberton, PTA HELPS director.
