Walk for Life

Approximately 400 people attended the fifth annual Walk for Life, held March 7 at Shoreline Park in Long Beach. The annual fundraiser was started by Downey resident Bob Feliciano after the death of his son, Sean, who took his own life in 2009 at age 20. He was a sophomore at UC Santa Barbara.

“The foundation would like to thank its family and friends from Downey and surrounding areas. Without the community support, we could not have year after year succeeded in supporting our goal of creating awareness that suicide is the number two killer of our college students,” said Bob Feliciano.

“What is so gratifying to the foundation is seeing everyone from Downey, including the entire Downey High School swim and water polo team in attendance,” he added. “It just shows the community pride and team spirit seeing that Sean was a member of both during his four years at Downey High.”

This year’s walk drew donations from as far away as Florida andAlaska. The Laker Girls also were in attendance for warm-ups and to cheer on participants.

“In all it was a great day,” said Bob.
