Upcoming events at the library
DOWNEY – The Downey City Library will celebrate the life of Jose-Luis Orozco this Monday, March 16, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Orozco is a celebrated singer, songwriter and children’s book author. He will share his story of growing up in Mexico, personal struggles and challenges, and key role models that contributed to his success.
Learning how the power of music and song transformed his life and how his cultural, education and social experiences inspired his achievements.
- The library will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at a Preschool Story Time on Tuesday, March 17, from 10:30 to 11 a.m.
Children ages 3-5 will listen to stories of rainbows and magic pots of gold; they may even spy a leprechaun or two.
The program is free and intended for individual children and their caregivers. No groups will be admitted.
- Family Story Night will be celebrated Thursday, March 19, from 6:30-7 p.m.
The volunteer-led program is for children ages 3-7 and family members.
- On Saturday, March 14, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the library will host a free workshop on drought tolerant and native planting.
Guests will learn how to help their landscape survive the water shortfall and how to transform a thirsty lawn into a beautiful, drought tolerant outdoor space.
Light refreshments will be served in the morning and lunch in the afternoon.
