UCLA alumni launch ‘Bruin Week’ in Southeast L.A.
DOWNEY – The Southeast Bruins have officially kicked off the new fiscal year by launching “Bruin Week.”
The week-long event is being held from July 17-21 and consists of a series of summer mixers that are held in multiple cities across the Southeast Los Angeles region.
Bruin alumni and friends are invited to enjoy tasty food with great people at this annual celebration and see how they can get involved.
The Southeast Bruins secured an agreement by the venues wherein each will donate a percentage of the event sales to the newly-created Southeast Bruins Scholarship Fund. All mixers are from 5:30-8:30 pm and consist of the following dates and venues:
■Monday, July 17, 2017, was at Las Champas, 6103 Pacific Boulevard in Huntington Park.
■Tuesday, July 18, 2017, was at El Pescador Bar and Grill, 116 East Beverly Boulevard in Montebello.
■Wednesday, July 19, 2017, in Hops and Barley Alehouse, 3905 Tweedy Boulevard in South Gate.
■Thursday, July 20, 2017, in La Barca Grill and Cantina, 11010 Paramount Boulevard in Downey.
■Friday, July 21, 2017, in Seta, 13033 Philadelphia Street in Whittier.
The cost is $5 per event and includes light appetizers and a no-host bar.
The initial Southeast Scholarship Award will be granted to one student from the Southeast Los Angeles region in the fall of 2017. This marks the first time in the history of UCLA that the university awards this region-specific scholarship. The first scholarship recipient will be announced at an inaugural annual event in the fall.
Known officially as the UCLA Alumni Los Angeles Southeast Network, the Southeast Bruins network is officially sanctioned by UCLA and strives to create a sense of community among the region’s 5,000 UCLA alumni, family, and friends.
This year’s newest Southeast Bruins Boardmembers include Maywood Councilmember Eddie De La Riva (Class of 2000), Downey’s Carlos Salas (Class of 2014), and Giselle Del Carmen (Class of 2017).
