Traffic island

Dear Editor:When the island on Imperial Highway was built, it was great. Traffic is smooth, with the exception of the intersection of Imperial and Downey Avenue. Some construction foreman got the idea of putting a 5-ft. round island where many cars have run into it, and some right over it. Traffic going east and making a right turn will suddenly have to slow down to make the turn. Traffic going west will make a left turn and a right turn on the side street. Traffic coming south on Downey Avenue and trying to make a right turn will suddenly have to stop because of the island. The evidence is right on the island: tire marks and broken signs. This causes many cars to damage their wheel alignments. The island should be removed. Mike Rodela, Downey
